On the 1st of September the seminar “The presentation of Aarhus Convention in the communities of Gagharkunikprovince” was held in Gegharkunik regional administration. The seminar was attended by 8 community directors, 10 representatives of NGOs, 2 representatives of mass media and regional administartion and 3 experts. The seminar was heldon its planned agenda which was started by the speech of the president “Blejan” NGO L. Asoyan. Then each expert presented their topics.
- The history of the foundation of Aarhus convention, the need of joining this convention, the presentation of date and provisions of the convention- KarineDanielyan (the president of the Association for Sustainable Human Development NGO / UNEP National Committee)
- The participation of society in the process of making decisions in the frames of Aarus convention, the RA experience in that process- Inga Zarafyan (The president of “Econews” NGO)
- The experience of accessibility of justice in the frames of Aarhus convention- SonaAyvazyan (the expert of environmental politics in “Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center” NGO )
The seminar ended with a question-and-answer form, where an attempt was made to find out whether local authorities are to retain the provisions of the Aarhus Convention in the process of local management, and how the public is involved in these processes. The participants were distributed materials: a booklet on Aarhus convention and informational leaflet on what the ecological information is and where they can get the information from.
