“The Use of Cover Crops for Improving Soil Health and Sustainable Agriculture” Project is on its way of implementation in Gegharkunik.
Since April 5, “The Use of Cover Crops for Improving Soil Health and Sustainable Agriculture” Project, funded by the German Corporation for International Cooperation within the framework of EU4Sevan- “Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan”, has been launched and is being implemented in the enlarged communities of Gavar, Martuni and Vardenis of Gegharkunik marz. The project is implemented by “BLEJAN” NGO.
The Project is aimed at sowing of various types of grass crops to improve the quality of degraded lands and restore their health. There were selected those types of farms which are provided with appropriate technical means for sowing and have desire and opportunity to co-finance. On June 10, the sowing of various types of grass crops has already been completed in all four villages. One hectare area was sown in each village, and the first phase of the project was completed.
In the second phase, we already provide farmers with electric shepherds with solar panels. Some of the grass crops sown will be harvested as fodder, some will be used as pasture, where electric shepherds will be used. Courses are organized for the beneficiary farms to teach the nuances of land improvement and health. After that, the beneficiaries themselves will exchange experience with other farms.
