On August 20, a seminar “The Presentation of Aarhus Convention in the communities of Gegharkunik Marz” was held in “Astghatsolq” NGO for parents of disabled children. The seminar was attended by 14 community leaders of Sevan region, 4 NGO representatives, and 3 experts.The seminar took place according to the agenda, with the opening speech of the president of “Blejan” NGO L. Asoyan. Then each expert presented their topics.
- The history of the foundation of Aarhus convention, the need of joining the convention of our state, the presentation of date and provisions of the convention- KarineDanielyan (the president of the Association for Sustainable Human Development NGO / UNEP National Committee)
- The participation of the society in the process of making decisions in the frames of Aarus convention, the RA experience in those processes- Inga Zarafyan (The president of “Econews” NGO)
- The experience of accessibility of justice in the frames of Aarhus convention- SonaAyvazyan (the expert of environmental politics in “Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center” NGO )
The seminar ended with a question-and-answer form, where an attempt was made to find out whether local authorities are to retain the provisions of the Aarhus Convention in the processes of local management, and how the public is involved in those processes. The participants were distributed materials: a booklet on Aarhus convention and an informational leaflet on what the ecological information is and where they can get the information from.
